When creativity isn’t needed

Seth Godin suggests we place boundaries on our creativity: Steal, don’t invent.

We don’t need to develop a new, innovative, out of the box email system.

Or payroll processing.

Or web design.

Or overnight shipping methodology.

Those tools already exist and are working incredibly well.

Don’t creatively redesign them. Steal them; that’s Mr. Godin’s advice.

Apply your creativity to what it is that makes you the best, distinctive, or world-class.

Stand on the shoulders of those who came before and get creative from there.

Had a post yesterday on how to be creative when creativity is important.
